The Myth of Getting It Together

Spoiler alert: No one’s got it together. Especially not on a Monday.

If you’ve ever scrolled past someone’s color-coded planner, perfectly poached egg, or choreographed morning routine and thought, "Am I doing this wrong?" — hi. Welcome. You’re not alone.

I’m here to tell you that "getting it together" is a myth. A sparkly, filtered, Pinterest-worthy myth. And honestly? It’s exhausting trying to chase it. Especially on a Monday.

What "Together" Actually Looks Like

Sometimes "together" looks like matching socks. Sometimes it looks like remembering to drink water before coffee. Sometimes it looks like crying in your car, then wiping your face and getting on with your day. All of it counts.

I used to believe that if I just had the right routine, the right app, or the right mindset, I’d finally unlock this level of adulting where everything just flowed. And while structure helps, the truth is: life flows like spilled coffee. Messy. Chaotic. Surprisingly manageable with paper towels.

Here's What Helps Me: (When I don’t have it all together)

  • Making my bed (even if the rest of the room is a disaster)

  • Writing down three things I actually did, not just what I "should" do- my “Ta-Da” list instead of my “To-Do” list!

  • Drinking water before I caffeinate (leaving a glass of water on my nightstand helps with this in the morning)

  • Picking one meal to plan and winging the rest

  • Giving myself permission to be a work in progress

If your version of getting it together looks like showing up, doing your best, and trying again tomorrow—guess what? That is together.

So this Monday, raise your mug with me (even if it's reheated). Here's to showing up, socks optional.

xo,

Kerri
